The discussion on Cancer Pain Management gives participants an opportunity to design ways to cope with challenges that arise from a cancer diagnosis. The program also offers a chance for individuals to share concerns with others facing similar experiences. Videotapes, printed materials and class discussions will provide up-to-date information for patients, family, and friends. Reach to Recovery Reach to Recovery, is designed to help breast cancer patients cope with their experience by introducing them to an American Cancer Society (ACS) volunteer who is a survivor of the disease. The survivor provides the patient and family members an opportunity to express feelings, talk about fears and concerns, and ask questions. More importantly, Reach to Recovery volunteers offer understanding, support, and hope because they themselves have survived the disease and gone on to live normal, productive lives. The encounter with a volunteer begins when someone is faced with the possibility of a breast cancer diagnosis and continues throughout the entire cancer experience.
